Poor posture is not a choice or a sign of laziness. It is an early warning sign of health issues.
For ages, people have sensed that poor posture is a predictor of poor health. With today’s health care advances and the trained eyes of our practitioners, the state of your posture can reveal signs of hidden damage and otherwise undetected health issues.
Through a brief posture screening, we can help you get ahead of health issues lurking just below the surface and head them off.
Ligaments are the “rubber bands” within the structure of joints that hold the joints together.
Due to their limited blood supply, when injured, ligaments are often slow to heal. They also tend to heal incompletely. Worse yet, because ligaments contain large numbers of nerve endings, you are likely to experience more pronounced pain in an injured ligament.
At our office, specialized injections into the joint can be used to improve blood and thus supply nutrients to the damaged area. This promotes faster and more complete healing within the joint itself.
Trigger point injection therapy is a treatment used to relieve the pain and stiffness caused by small tense points in your muscle structure. These are called “trigger points” and are often sensitive to the touch.
Trigger points are like small knots in your muscles that keep an area of the body tense and unable to relax. This prolonged stress can cause injury and damage. Because of the tension, these areas are also slow to heal.
Trigger point injection therapy targets these tense knots and relaxes them with a small injection. Most patients report immediate relief.
Manual therapy involves ‘hands on’ therapeutic procedures designed to promote blood flow, relaxation, and healing in injured areas. The target tissue of manual therapy is the connective tissue in the musculoskeletal system. This connective tissue holds muscle fibers in groups to make a muscle and to hold muscles together. These structures also attach muscle to bone, bone to bone, skin to fat, and fat to muscle.
Manual therapy involves applying deep pressure and slow, penetrating strokes generally along the length of the muscles. It is a soft tissue manipulation and releases restricted areas of the muscles. It is usually not painful but can be very intense.
One serious situation that can occur within joints is the loss of the vital internal lubrication between the parts. Joints essentially operate as living hinges and rely on the moving parts being able to smoothly slide past each other. When this lucubration is missing, damage occurs at the points of contact. Some patients describe this as a “bone on bone” sensation.
Viscosupplementation therapy uses a specialized and natural joint replacement fluid called hyaluronan. By reintroducing lubricating fluid into the joint, smoother operation is often the result. This then allows the joint to begin to heal itself, naturally.
There are very few if any side effects from hyaluronan, as it is virtually identical to the original joint fluid.
In any treatment plan, once the underlying cause of the pain is identified and corrected, rehabilitation is the next logical step.
Studies have shown that without rehabilitation of injured areas, recovery from an acute injury or chronic condition takes longer and the potential for reinjury remains high.
Rehabilitation therapy can help improve flexibility, increase muscle strength, and enhance balance and coordination. For each patient, a rehabilitation program will be custom designed for you with the goal of expediting the recovery process and preventing reinjury.
At the forefront of advanced treatments, chiropractic care is a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment.
Central to our chiropractic care procedures are “spinal manipulations,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in their movement as a result of a tissue injury.
Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer.
Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness and allowing tissues to heal.
